Role: System Designer, Junior Technical Designer
Crytek was my first industry role after graduating and shipping the Pathos project. I relocated to Frankfurt am Main, arriving a few months before Hunt: Showdown's Alpha release. While onboarding during crunch, I volunteered my time on the weapon balancing pipeline - rebuilding the balancing spreadsheet to give us better eye-glance comparisons and landing my first submits early.
Technical Design was still a niche discipline, and I was one of only two TDs at the studio. That meant I was exposed to a lot quickly: I was brought into hiring, learning to interview and technically assess candidates from junior to senior level, and was involved in application sorting and final decisions.
My core focus was AI characters and weapons/gadgets, alongside the classic TD role of unblocking the team wherever design and code met. I also worked with the content and community teams — appearing on patch-release streams and helping capture gameplay footage for feature videos.
I was promoted to a System Designer during Early Access and stayed through the full 1.0 release, after which I decided to return to the UK.
